08/06/2014

Sorry I wasn't able to write on Monday, I got a new companion, his name is Elder Goes,  He's been on his mission for a little over a year and he may be my last companion, I'm starting to really love this sector, it's already hard accepting the fact that it may be the last. The group of missionaries who came to Tahiti right before me left today... I'M NEXT. Do I have to come home? It feels like I'm just starting to get the hang of things too, God has helped me so much these past few weeks, I've learned a lot about patience. It's been a constant theme of my mission. I hope that I'm at the least becoming more patient.
We've started a book of Mormon class, we read the book of Mormon every day with the members at the church, it’s been really successful and something I look forward to everyday. I read the chapters assigned for the night during my personal study, so by the end of the class, I would have finished the book twice instead of just once. Making it the 4th time I've finished the book of Mormon on my mission (in my life too) it has blessed me so much, I've gained a testimony for myself, and it's exactly how they said it would be in the introduction. Because I have gained this testimony, I know that Joseph is a prophet of God, that he restored the one and true church and that it really is through this gospel that I will see my family again after this life.
All of that = smiley face. I'm happy. But not yet satisfied, the day I will be satisfied with all the work I've done is when I'm in the temple with my WHOLE family receiving and accomplishing eternal blessings. Life is so much better, so much more exciting, has more purpose and is way more rewarding with the gospel. I remember in scouting, I had a motivation of just getting my eagle to say I finished. With the gospel, everything I work for is for the wellbeing of my posterity for the eternities. So much more worth it, I won't just have a badge on my chest and piece of paper saying I made it, but I will have kingdoms and glories and eternal joy. I can't wait for that. It's going to be hard, but I've got a much better hold on things than I did almost two years ago.
I love you all so much, I'm sorry but I can't send pictures this week, I'm on a tablet. Be safe this week!

Raja's child is super cute; I can’t wait to meet him. Also trace is looking super old; tell him to quit growing up so fast. This week has been great; I baptized a family last night, and stayed in my old sector last night because they asked that I be the one to baptize them! It was an awesome baptismal service. I go back to Mataiea this evening
.
There were some transfers here this past week, I’m staying in my sector and my companion is going somewhere else...obviously. It’s going to be great with my next companion, I’m not worried at all, I’ve only heard good things about him. Life is beautiful here in Tahiti, in every sense of the word. I’ve been blessed to serve here. I don’t know what I did to deserve all of this, but I must have washed a few more dishes than everybody else in the pre-earth life haha.

August then September, 21 years old, then October and I’m home in November. I don’t want to leave yet! Can’t you guys wait another year or something? My mission president has me on a ''secret mission'' for the moment, its actually pretty rewarding; I can’t really say what it is, but ask me after my mission and I will tell you all. I don’t have much time since the others have things planned, so this will have to do for this week’s letter. No pictures this week sorry! I love you all!

07/21/2014
This week has been pretty crazy; of course a lot of miracles are happening. It’s becoming very normal. This weekend I will be going to my last sector to baptize two of my favorite people on earth. A little girl named Ravahere and then my bro Ate, Our new mission president is really cool about being in the lives of our investigators, so he is letting me go to both of these baptisms! Also, in the pictures that I am sending this week, I assisted a baptism of an investigator that I taught when I was in Hao, but I was transferred right before her baptism. I had lost contact with her until our reunion last week when the sister missionaries that teach her announced her baptism. I was so happy that I had found her again, and to know that she continued the lessons with the missionaries. I surprised her at her baptism and she almost jumped on me haha. I love that lady, her name is Olga by the way, and it’s awesome. The second best part of the baptism was seeing some of the old investigators that I taught and baptized out there. The Lord blessed me to be able to see them again before I leave. I was probably the happiest Elder in Tahiti that Night.
This week during our lessons, the spirit has been super strong and has been leading us like crazy; helping us say the things that need to be said at just the right moment. We had two lessons with two couples and we had already planned and prepared the lessons for the two, but when we started the lessons, the spirit told me to teach something completely different. So we did, and at the end, we ended up saying all the things that the investigators needed to hear. We should be seeing 1 marriage and 4 baptisms out of it in the next few weeks! Working with the spirit is super helpful. We also went to a member’s house this week to have a huge Tahitian feast. "Maa Tahiti" I literally became sick because I ate too much. I felt like I couldn’t move for about 2 days... The best part was, that night after we had eaten, we taught a lesson on the word of wisdom. I felt a little guilty haha.
Life is as good as ever; my mission is slowly but speedily coming to an end. I’m happy for constant reminders from the Lord, telling me that he is here. I love my life, I love my mission. Things are pretty nice here in Tahiti ha. I love you all, have a great week!

07/07/2014

Well Just to get things started, you guys make me laugh thinking that I’m lost on a savage island. Actually it’s pretty close to that haha. But No, I’m just here in my new sector called Mataiea, just before the Presque isle. It’s pretty dang great here, the members are great in the ward, and the lifestyle is a lot more laid back, kind of like when I was out in Hao. Scary thing is, I’ve been thinking that this very well could be my last sector on my mission. Of course I will be asking the pres. to send me back to my last sector before I leave, I love and miss those people way too much.
Sorry for the lack of consistency when it comes to emails lately. For some reason, all of our members here are stuck in the 40's meaning no one has a computer. Anyway, I’m alive and doing better than ever. The mission just continues to get more and more crazy, We have a new mission president and you can already feel the huge change that he is bringing to the mission. He is a great guy and I have a lot of respect for him. Sadly I will only be here for the baby steps of his mission and will have to see his full potential from America. But I think I will be coming back here to Tahiti as soon as I can to see all these people again. I may just find my wife here so that I can have an easier way of coming back here whenever I want!
We had a baptism yesterday, it went really well, the service was simple, but the best part for me was watching the look on the face of the one who baptized. It was the first time that he had ever baptized someone, and the Lord gave him the great blessing of having that first baptism be his brother! I love my mission. I wish that I had more time to let you all know the other things that have happened. But I don't, so I will just send a bunch of pictures instead. Enjoy!

I love you all, Stay safe this week!

06/17/2014

Sad day in Elder Fyffe town, I’m being transferred... I don’t really want to leave the sector. It seems that right when all of the work that we’ve been doing is starting to pay off, the Lord wants me to go start working somewhere else. But I know there is a reason why I will be sent over there. I know it’s because someone needs me. It’s just hard because a little part of me needs these people too. Sometimes I wonder if I love these people too much. I asked this question recently to a member in a past ward. Because the new missionaries in the ward are having a little trouble. I asked the member if maybe I was a little too close to the investigators, because at times I wonder if the investigators were too attached to me. The reply that he gave me helped me out a lot, he said, “I don’t think God could ever be too close to someone, or love someone too much." As his representative I should and I am loving these people with all that I have. All missionaries have a different way of working, for some people it is difficult to express charity or love. Even though they have those feelings inside. For me it has never been difficult to show my love. It just makes me too happy to see others happy. The Lord is sending me to a new sector to love his children. I hope that he will continue to use me in order to show his love to his children.
Anyway, this past weekend we had 2 baptisms! Maeva and Heitiare, Maeva is like an Aunt Rebecca kinda figure, and Heitiare is more like Aunt Raja, I love those two so much! Their baptisms were really powerful, when they both came out of the water they were bawling. The spirit did his work and made a lot of others cry too. We even had an investigator say that she witnessed a true baptism. The baptism that Christ exemplified. The Lord really helped these two sisters change their lives. They both found the truth, and said that the baptism was better than they had ever imagined. The whole ward was there for both of the baptisms, and we all enjoyed accepting these two into our ward family. Then at church we had our class with our investigators and they promised us that they would be baptized in July. Stinkin sweet!  Writing emails is getting difficult for me. My joys keep growing while my vocabulary to express my joy keeps getting smaller haha. I never really know what to say. Just know that Life is treating me better than ever. Don’t be surprised if I miss my flight back haha.....joshn... I love you all, have a great week!
